All About Me
Mrs. Kalyn McAlester
Birthday: September 20, 1972
Years in Education: 10
I grew up in Mesquite, Texas. My Dad is a preacher and my Mom is a
teacher in the Mesquite Independent School District. I have 2 younger
sisters.
When I turned 14, we moved to Anchorage, Alaska, for my Dad to pastor a
church there. We were there for four and half years. I attended
Bartlett High School in Anchorage, and was privileged to be the
youngest auditioning singer in the elite choir.
We moved back to Texas 2 weeks before my senior year began. I finished school and graduated from West Mesquite High School.
I immediately began college at Dallas Baptist University on a vocal
performance scholarship. If it weren't for scholarships, I would have
been in trouble. This made me stay focused on my academics because I
had to maintain a 3.5 GPA to keep my scholarships.
I began teaching in Grand Prairie, Texas. Eighth grade was my first experience. I taught at Lee Middle School and then at Truman Middle School for 5 years.
I met Troy while teaching in Grand Prairie. A friend from church
introduced us. He is a pharmacist and grew up in McAlester, Oklahoma.
We were married in 2002.
In June of 2003, his job transferred him to the Sherman area. We picked up our roots and moved north. We live in Bells. We
have 2 four-legged kids - ha! We have a Chocolate labrador named
Cooper, and a German Shepherd we call Callie. They are wonderful and
have goofy stories the kids love to hear!
Troy work's at Sams Club in Sherman, and I am enjoying my 5th year
with Savoy! I love teaching 6th grade. I love doing really crazy things
with my students.
