Siphon the Drive
Mrs. Hoak's Classroom Theme
O
O
"What
does 'Siphon the Drive' mean?" you may ask. On the second day of
school, we
investigated the meanings of these words (and words like intrinsic and
motivation) in the dictionary. Everyone paired up and tried to solve
the mystery of my theme.
What was discovered is that every student in school has an inner drive within them that causes them to want to learn how to drive a car.
My hope this year is that each and every student will learn to
recognize that inner drive within themselves and siphon it, or tap into
it, or draw from it, and apply it to learning math. I will be
correllating the learning of math to learning how to drive a car.
There are many correlations! The main emphasis that has
been discussed already is that the only true way of learning to drive a
car is to EXPERIENCE it! The same holds true for math. You must
experience it yourself (putting pencil to paper and practicing the
problems) in order to truly learn it.
Be looking for ways that learning to drive a car is like learning math and share your ideas in class!
