Savoy ISD Develops Facility Improvement Plan

The Savoy ISD School Board met recently and developed a two year plan to improve facilities at both the Elementary and High School Campuses. The plan calls for approximately $400,000 to be spent on remodeling, repairs and security upgrades over the next 2 years. The funds will come from the district’s existing fund balance.

The following projects are planned:

  1. Paint both ES and HS gyms including hallways.
  2. Replace glass and doors at ES gym
  3. Upgrade ES and HS security entrances including camera and physical elements to improve strength and safety.
  4. Remodel 4 restrooms in the 1966 ES addition, and 2 restrooms in the 1969 ES gym foyer (some will be done this year and some next).
  5. Add mulch on the ES playground in high impact areas.
  6. Re-crown the football field so it does not hold water.
  7. Renovate the existing field house (volunteer labor is being organized for this project).
  8. Renovate High School science labs to make them fully useable for HS Chemistry, Physics and Biology classes (Chemistry lab will be done this year, Biology will be done next year).

Some of the projects will begin very soon. Work on the fieldhouse is planned to start in January. If you would like to volunteer to help with that project contact Mike Smith at Savoy High School. The field crowning will also be done soon so that new grass has time to get established.

In addition to this, thanks to a generous donation, new weight room equipment has been ordered.
